Vysočany (population around 780) lies on the Drahany Highlands, north-east of Sloup, on the road from Šošůvka to Prostějov. It is one of the main routes by which visitors from central Moravia reach the Moravian Karst. The municipality was formed in the 1960s by merging two villages, Housko and Molenburk, which are separated by the Polačka pond. Both were founded by Count Karel Ludvík of Rogendorf, as was Krasová. The village’s landmark is the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, dating from 1873. The Vysočany Pilgrimage Festival (Vysočanská pouť) is held in early July. For somewhere to stay, head for Sloup.

Molenburk is the only one of Count Rogendorf’s villages to have kept its German name to this day. Its sister village, Krasová, was called Rogendorf until 1946, when it was given a Czech name. Molenburk carries the second part of the count’s title.
What to see
Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius
The church was built thanks to the initiative of local parishioners and the parish priest of Sloup. Construction began in 1864 and it was consecrated in 1873. It underwent renovation between 2007 and 2012, and the village is now raising funds for a new organ. Opposite, on the village green, stands the school with its library.
Polačka Pond
The pond lies beside the main road and forms a natural boundary between Housko and Molenburk.
A little history
Housko is first mentioned in 1371. By the end of the 14th century it was a village on the Holštejn estate with a small stone church, which was unusual for a village at the time. In 1437 the church was burnt down by the Hussites and the village was abandoned. The remains of its walls could still be seen north of the present village at the end of the 17th century, before locals dismantled them to build houses. Molenburk was founded by Count Rogendorf in 1724. Housko was re-established at the end of the 18th century, about 2 km south-west of the original deserted village.
