Where you sleep depends on what you want to see and whether you have a car:
- Skalní Mlýn and Blansko: closest to the Punkva Caves (Punkevní jeskyně) and the Macocha Abyss, with a railway station in Blansko. The best choice if you don’t have a car.
- Sloup, Šošůvka and Vavřinec: the northern part of the Karst. Peace and quiet, the Sloup-Šošůvka Caves (Sloupsko-šošůvské jeskyně) and Pustý žleb (“Desolate Gorge”) on foot.
- Jedovnice, Ostrov u Macochy and Vilémovice: the heart of the Karst. Most sights are within 20 minutes by car, with swimming in the Olšovec pond in summer.
- Křtiny and Rudice: the southern part, with the Výpustek Cave, the Křtiny Valley and the shortest journey from Brno.
If you can’t decide, pick Jedovnice or Vilémovice. Everything is close by from there. Accommodation in the Karst is limited, so book weeks ahead for summer weekends.

The Moravian Karst is small. From Jedovnice you can drive to Skalní Mlýn or to Sloup in roughly 15–20 minutes. So choose your area mainly by what you’d like the surroundings to be like in the evening, and whether you have a car. We cover getting to the Karst in detail in How to Get to the Moravian Karst.
The ratings for each tip are from Booking.com as of 10 October 2026 (guest score out of 10 and number of reviews). We chose properties by their location relative to the caves, by their ratings, and so that you have something to choose from at every price level. We don’t list prices. On Booking they change with the dates and occupancy, and you’ll see the price once you enter your dates.

Booking Tips
- Caves first, accommodation second. In season and at weekends you often can’t get into the Punkva Caves without a reservation. Book your tour first, then look for accommodation to fit around it. We explain how in the article Tickets and Reservations.
- Book summer stays in advance. There aren’t many hotels and guesthouses in the Karst. For weekends in July and August, the best-rated ones sell out weeks ahead.
- Looking for Sloup? Watch the name. If you type just “Sloup” into Booking, it will find Sloup in Bohemia near Nový Bor, at the other end of the country. Search for “Moravian Karst” or use the links in this article.
- For a longer stay, choose an apartment with a kitchen. Smaller villages have one restaurant or none, and in the evening there’s nowhere to go.
- Save money out of season. The caves are open in spring and autumn too, when accommodation is cheaper and easier to find. We discuss when to go in the article When to Visit the Moravian Karst.
- Step-free access is listed on Booking for Hotel Stará škola and Zámek Křtiny. Do check it directly with the accommodation, though. We explain which caves are accessible in the guide to the Karst without barriers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the best accommodation in the Moravian Karst? It depends on what you’re after. Hotel Skalní Mlýn is closest to the Punkva Caves. The best-rated hotel with a pool is Hotel Kras in Jedovnice. For a quiet stay, we recommend the north of the Karst, Sloup and Vavřinec.
Is it better to stay in Blansko or right in the Karst? Without a car, stay in Blansko, because the train runs there and a bus goes on from there to the caves. With a car, it’s better to stay right in the Karst (Jedovnice, Vilémovice, Sloup), where you have peace and quiet in the evening and are at the caves earlier in the morning.
Can you camp in the Moravian Karst? Not just anywhere. In the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Moravský kras), camping is allowed only in designated places, not freely in the woods or meadows. We go through the rules in the article Rules of the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area.
Does it make sense to stay in Brno and make day trips to the Karst? For a day or two, yes. From Brno you can get to Blansko by train in 20–25 minutes, and to Skalní Mlýn by car in 30–40 minutes. For a longer stay, it’s more convenient to stay right in the Karst.
How far ahead should I book? For summer weekends and school holidays, weeks ahead, and even earlier for the popular places. Out of season, a few days is usually enough.
How many days should I spend in the Moravian Karst? A weekend is enough for the main sights; see the weekend itinerary. To take in all 5 caves, the valleys and the lookout towers, allow a week; see A Week in the Moravian Karst.
