In our view, Jedovnice is the best base for a longer stay in the Moravian Karst. It sits right in the middle of the region — about 7 km from the Macocha Abyss, with Skalní Mlýn and the village of Sloup both a 15- to 20-minute drive away. In the evening you’ve got restaurants, shops, and in summer, swimming in Olšovec Lake.
- Hotel with a pool: Hotel Kras, right on the shore of Olšovec Lake.
- Cottage by the water: Chata u Kempu or Roubenka, both with 3 bedrooms. Couples will find smaller cottages near the lake plenty.
- House for a big family: Krasonoš, the highest-rated accommodation in Jedovnice.
- Walking distance to the forest: Apartmány v Propadání, about a kilometre from the Rudické propadání sinkhole.
- Budget and surrounded by nature: Kemp Olšovec campsite, with tents, cabins and rooms all on offer.
Without a car, Jedovnice is a less convenient choice. If you’re travelling by train, Blansko is the better place to sleep.

Why stay in Jedovnice
Jedovnice is a market town of just under three thousand residents on the edge of the Moravian Karst, sitting in a basin surrounded by the forests of the Drahany Highlands. For a stay in the karst region, it offers three key advantages:
Location. From the centre of the karst, you can reach all five show caves and the Macocha Abyss within 20 minutes. It’s around 7 km to the abyss, and roughly a 15- to 20-minute drive to Skalní Mlýn and Sloup. We cover transport in detail in our article How to Get to the Moravian Karst.
Things to do right in the village. Olšovec Lake has been used for recreation since 1967 and is the most popular swimming spot in the whole karst area in summer. From here you can walk along a nature trail to Rudické propadání sinkhole and on to Rakovec Valley, where snowflake flowers bloom in spring. Mountain bikers will find a network of singletrails in Jedovnice, open from mid-March to the end of October (see The Moravian Karst by Bike).
Evenings out. Jedovnice has restaurants, shops and services that the small villages right in the karst itself lack. Find out more about the village in our article Jedovnice.
Ratings for each pick are from Booking.com as of 12 October 2026 (guest score out of 10 and number of reviews), as are the pet policies. We haven’t listed prices, as these change depending on dates.
